Welcome to Art!

I'm very excited to be working with you this year and to share with you my love of art! Whatever your experience with art, I hope that you will learn to have an open mind and an appreciation for art in our school, in Colorado, and in our world.

I am new to Lesher this year but I am not new to teaching art. I moved here three years ago with my family- including my husband, daughter, son, labradoodle pup and African Grey parrot. I have taught middle school art both in New York City and Los Angeles, as well as teaching in art centers and studios. I am a working artist and have had many other art related jobs including in graphics, fashion and jewelry design.

I earned my Bachelor's of Fine Arts from The George Washington University in D.C., and my Master's of Education from City College of New York. I am always striving to learn new things and continue my own education as I believe it is very important to be a lifelong learner.

In this class, we will be working with a wide range of art materials, learning various techniques in 2D and 3D art and expanding our idea of what art can be. The elements and principles of art will be covered, as well as some historical and cultural aspects of making art. We will be creating, viewing and talking about our art and the work of other artists.

I want to emphasize the importance of respect in this class. For a successful art experience, we all need to have respect for every person’s space, thoughts, ideas and art. It is also very important for us to take care of the tools and materials we use. If they are used and cleaned with care, they will last a very long time. Everyone is responsible for maintaining a clean art room.

Students are expected to come to every class on time and prepared to work. Attendance is very important as all work will be done in class. Arrangements can be made to do make-up work in the art room either before school or during lunch according to my availability.

Each student is required to bring several pencils and erasers to every class. An old shirt or apron to protect clothing is optional.

I am excited to be creating with you this year!
