Welcome U.S. History, American Humanities, Current Issues, and U.S. Government students and parents!
Hello! I have the pleasure of being one of the 5 remaining veteran teachers who helped open this fantastic school back in 2005. I have a B.A. in Journalism/ Political Science and a M.S. in Education. Before teaching, I was a sports journalist, feature writer, promotion assistant at KMGH TV and a legislative intern for a U.S. Senator in Washington D.C.
US History: I have a passion to teach objectively about our country's rich yet at times complicated history. Each class is designed to cover Colorado's required curriculum Scopes and Sequence, however, I feel it's incredibly important to have students be well versed in Contemporary History, so in my class, we will go past the required scope and sequence and will cover to the election of 2000. *
American Humanities: I created this class to give students the opportunity to know the "America" his/her parents, grandparents and great parents grew up knowing. We look at our country through social, political, and cultural changes via news clips, consumerism, music, tv, movies, and of course literature. (please see syllabus for more detail)
U.S. Government: I enjoy teaching this class, and have guest speakers come in to bring government alive! (please see syllabus for more detail).*
Current Issues: This is a new elective course we are offering this year. I'm excited to be the listener/facilitator in this student-driven course which will help students better understand local, state, national, and international news sources. students will also learn research tips and navigate through news sources to better understand all sides to a story.
I truly look forward to meeting and working with you throughout this year.
