Some materials you will be using this year in addition to your laptop are:

a composition notebook (this is where we will do everything for math class, all year)
pencils, erasers, pens (I love a good color-coding moment! Also, using fun pens makes everything better.)
scissors, glue sticks or tape, ruler, calculator

8th Grade Grading Policies
8th Grade Grading Policies
Grading is based on the Colorado Academic Standards. Student grades will come from quizzes, Friday Showcases, and unit assessments. Students will be given additional practice each night that corresponds to the days lesson. These assignments are not always entered into the gradebook, but it is crucial that students students practice outside of class to master each standard.
Grades will be reported as follows:
4.0 - Advanced – above content standards
3.0 - Proficient
2.0 - Partially Proficient
1.0 Novice
0.0 Did not turn in

Do your practice every night. Use the feedback from GoFormative to help you correct your mistakes along the way.
Take advantage of opportunities to retake assessments.
Keep your notebook up to date as we add to it together - this will be a great resource all year long!
If you are feeling like you're drowning, just tell me! Send me an email, talk to me after class... but please, do NOT struggle alone.

I want you to experience success! I want you to feel confident! If you aren't feeling these things, tell me, so we can form a plan to make things better, together.
Please be honest with yourself (and with me) about what you do not understand. It is perfectly okay to struggle. That is how we all learn new skills - struggle with them, practice them, and hopefully, master them!
Know that I will do everything in my power to make this your best year of math ever!
