Grading Policy
8th Grade core teachers completed a book study, Grading for Equity by Joe Feldman. Through this study, we have identified a few elements we will implement into our grading practices. 8th Grade and High School credited courses will be scored on a total points/percentage system. To make this equitable, we will work toward the following criteria as a team:
More consistency amongst teachers in the grade level
No zeros - the lowest score a student can receive is 50% of the total point value assigned to an assignment
Encourage retakes and relearning throughout the year.
In the first month of school, students will experience a lesson about how grade are calculated and discuss the rational around our grading practices. This will also be shared at Back to School Night. We encourage you to have conversations with your students in regard to what they discovered and their initial thoughts when we explained traditional grading.
In addition, if you would like to listen to a podcast that a neighboring school district had with Joe Feldman, here is a link to receive more information about the practices that we will implement.
