Today students worked on applying their understanding of dividing decimals to specific word problems uploaded on ClassKick. Students began working on these word problems and were challenged to come up with a word problem of their own that their peers could solve.

Literacy

Students began working on their readings for week 5! Reading strategies are due for Monday next week and they should be prepared to share their strategies with their reading groups.

Students worked through practice questions for our Air and Aerodynamics unit. These questions are uploaded to ClassKick for students to work through in order to prepare for their Unit Test on Tuesday, December 8th.

Students read pages 44 and 45 in chapter 2 of their online textbook (posted in Google Classroom), and then completed a quick multiple choice task called "Taxes Pay for Services" (posted in ClassKick). Week One Schedule & Slideshow

NOVEMBER 21st:

Dear 6D Families,

Thank you for your patience and understanding as 6D transitions to remote learning until December 2nd. Miss Bridgeman and I have been working together as a teaching team to ensure that this transition for your children is as easy as possible.

On Monday, November 23rd at 8:30 am, we will hold a "class" designed specifically to provide scheduling details and instructions for students to ensure as much success as possible. The class will not run all day, in order to provide time for us teachers to best prepare, and for students to get organized, and schedule their COVID testing as well. Parents are welcome to join us at 8:30 am Monday morning, to listen in on the details and explanations, or to ask further questions. Tuesday, November 24th regular instruction will begin at 8:30am, and students are expected to be online and ready to learn. All work and assignments will be posted to Google Classroom. In the event that a student is ill, an outline of the day's work for each subject will also be posted to our Class Website, just as we have been doing since September. Homework will also be posted to our class website, and to the REMIND app. Students are already familiar with this process, and have been shown multiple times how to access the website (Additionally the class website is posted in their “Miscellaneous” Google Classroom).

To begin, we have made a schedule for the students for next week. Students will be expected to join a Google Meet each morning and afternoon, with lessons alternating between Mrs. van Beek and Miss Bridgeman. A link will be posted prior to each meeting in our Remote Learning Google Classroom, as directed on your child’s attached schedule. Students will be reminded of proper Google Meet/video conferencing etiquette on Monday during our first meeting. Please have your children review the guidelines that have been shared with them in their “Miscellaneous” Google Classroom on the first page, titled, “Google Meets Etiquette”. If you are unsure of how exactly a Google Meet works, this video explains how to get set up and how things look on the joinee end of things.

Should your child require essential materials that are currently in our classroom, you are welcome to pick them up from the school office. As well, should your child not have access to their own device, the office can sign out a Chromebook to your child. Please provide the office a minimum of 2 hours notice if you're going to be picking up any of your child's items or a school borrowed Chromebook. The office can be reached at 780-571-8079. Please also note that student immunizations scheduled for 6D on Monday are cancelled until further notice. Once we know how AHS plans to make up the dates, we will let you know.

We are blessed with amazing students, and I am confident that we will make these next two weeks as positive and "normal" as possible. We've got this! If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to be in touch.

Parents AND students should use this link on Monday (at 8:30) to join our Online Learning Information Meeting. If you are unable to join the information meeting on Monday, any new details (not covered in this email) will be posted to our classroom website by 4:00pm on Monday, November 23rd.

Regards,

Mrs. van Beek and Miss Bridgeman (student teacher)
