Bailey, Deborah S. “Alternatives to Incarceration.” Monitor on Psychology, American Psychological Association, https://www.apa.org/monitor/julaug03/alternatives.
Bailey was an important source. It allowed me to find proof of how many states are just throwing drug abusers into jail rather than digging deeper. It also explained how once in jail they continue to get introduced to worse drugs and spiral downhill even more.
Berman, Steven L, et al. “Associations between Prosocial Behavior ... - Wiley Online Library.” Trauma and Identity: A Reciprocal Relationship, https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1016/j.adolescence.2020.01.012.
This source was about the relation between identity and trauma. How childhood trauma can shape them as they get older. I used this in my essay to support my point that trauma shapes identity.
Burgin, Aj; Hankinson, Stephanie; Rai, Candice. “Writer/Thinker/Maker.” University of Washington. Macmillan learning curriculum solutions
This citation is basically the UW curriculum book that helps and allows students to learn more about English and proper ways to write. We took notes on this that later on will help us with our writings.
Clinic, Mayo. “Am I Vulnerable to Opioid Addiction?” Mayo Clinic, Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, 12 Apr. 2022, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/prescription-drug-abuse/in-depth/how-opioid-addiction-occurs/art-20360372#:~:text=Opioids%20are%20highly%20addictive%2C%20in,powerful%20sense%20of%20well%2Dbeing.
Mayo Clinic explained the effect drugs have on the brain and neurotransmitters. It allowed me to explain how the history of drugs has been drastically changed, especially the difference from drugs going to easing pain to completely being out of control.
Claro, Heloísa Garcia, et al. “Drug Use, Mental Health and Problems Related to Crime and Violence: Cross-Sectional Study.” Revista Latino-Americana De Enfermagem, U.S. National Library of Medicine, 2015, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4664019/.
This citation was used to help with my solution. It explains how once on drugs, you're not in the correct mindset anymore. It also depleads one's mental state. This was needed in order to get across that even though many individuals have become heavily addicted there is still room for help, just as long as we dont judge before we go any further.
Edwards, Blake Griffen. “Psychology Today: Health, Help, Happiness + Find a Therapist.” The Roots of Our Stories: Family and the Forging of Identity, https://www.psychologytoday.com/.
This source talks about family and identity. We need family to teach us basics and also what we grow up in gives us the idea of how to grow up. It is important, i used this in my essay to state how family shapes identity
“Effects of Physical Appearance on Self-Esteem.” Changing Faces, https://www.changingfaces.org.uk/advice-guidance/confidence-self-esteem/appearance-self-esteem/.
Appearance and how people see us can decipher how they think of us. The judgment of others can affect us in the long run. I used this to show how comments, looks, or judgment can affect how people think about themselves
Giorgi, Anna. “How Much Does Alcohol Rehab Usually Cost?” WebMD, WebMD, https://www.webmd.com/connect-to-care/addiction-treatment-recovery/alcohol/how-much-does-alcohol-rehab-really-cost.
I needed this cite in order to explain how the cost of rehabilitation and treatment is overly expensive. The help for these individuals is needed but they are continuing to throw them in jail rather then giving the free or cheaper treatment needed.
Justice. “Overview of Federal Criminal Cases.” Www.justice.gov, https://www.justice.gov/usao-mdpa/page/file/1498936/download.
This was used in the overview. It explained how the growing cases of drug addicts in jail has grown extremely. They continue to be put in jail rather than getting help. Which is what my essay is about. Drugs should be seen as a mental issue rather than a criminal offense.
Krakauer, Jon. Into Thin Air. Warner Books, 1993.
This citation is a book about Mt. Everest. It explains the terrain and the difficulty it is. The history behind it is discussed as well. The author became a journalist while climbing the mountain and describes his experience while climbing the mountain.
NIDA. “Addiction and Health.” National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 22 Mar. 2022, https://nida.nih.gov/publications/drugs-brains-behavior-science-addiction/addiction-health.
NIDA explains the health issues related to drugs. If one has an issue it can be worsened, or even cause some. Drugs have been correlated to one another. The effect drugs have on mental health should be more known.
Palmera, Casa. “The History of Illegal Drugs in America.” Casa Palmera, 23 July 2015, https://casapalmera.com/blog/the-history-of-illegal-drugs-in-america/.
Palmera was used for the overview. It explained the history of drugs and how it has negatively grown. It has spread, gone downhill, and been abused.
Saah, Tammy. “The Evolutionary Origins and Significance of Drug Addiction - Harm Reduction Journal.” BioMed Central, BioMed Central, 29 June 2005, https://harmreductionjournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1477-7517-2-8.
I didn't directly quote this source but it gave me a lot of information and allowed me to figure out what to write for my overview. While reading it i didn't quote anything it just helped me find a little information
Shelley, Mary Wollstonecraft. Frankenstein, or, the Modern Prometheus: With Connections. Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1999.
Frankenstein's creature never had a family or people he looked up to. But he had people he looked over. The relationship between the blind man's family taught him a lot about feelings, letters, etc. He had trauma from each person who met who would leave him based on his appearance. Making him believe he didn't matter and was only a monster. His identity was nothing anymore which is why I believe appearance, trauma, and family are so important to one's identity .
Shemmassian, Dr. “14 College Essay Examples from Top-25 Universities (2022–2023).” Shemmassian Academic Consulting, Shemmassian Academic Consulting, 27 June 2022, https://www.shemmassianconsulting.com/blog/college-essay-examples.
We used these to help us get an idea of what to write about for our personal narrative. Many people think we need trauma or something bad in our life for a good essay, but in reality no. Just something we are passionate about or shaped us, this is why we read these essays
StanfordUniversity, “Steve Jobs' 2005 Stanford Commencement Address.” YouTube, 7 Mar. 2008, https://youtu.be/UF8uR6Z6KLc.
We watched Steve Jobs' speech to help us see what he believed in and what got him to where he was. He had obstacles he faced but he never gave up. Personally this video helped me get several ideas of what to add to my essay
