Event
For our last event of the semester, members gathered on the evening of the 4th to host a mock-UN session on a discussion of the Korean peninsula. A hypothetical situation, a natural disaster affecting North Korea was presented, and each member took on a specific role, such as the UN General Assembly, North Korean representatives, NGOs, and other countries, to try and hash out an aid plan for recovery in the country. The goal was to come up with a plan that could be agreed on by all parties, considering current geopolitics and the needs of the citizens.
Rounds of debate, presentation, and questions were held as each party created their own ideas for aid delivery and distribution. At the end of the session, members were successfully able to create a plan agreed upon by all participating entities. While only hypothetical, this exercise gave all members the opportunity to practice their debate skills in a realistic setting, and consider the way in which future climate disasters may affect geopolitics.
