Paju
Event
On April 18, Yonsei PSCORE took a field trip across the Imjingang River to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in Paju-si. By participating in the DMZ Peace Tour, members found themselves at the heart of the Korean War's legacy. Through the tour, they gained a deeper understanding of the history of the Korean Peninsula and the ongoing political tensions between North and South Korea.
The day began with a visit to the Dora Observatory, where participants had the rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of North Korean landmarks, including the statue of Kim Il-sung and Mount Songak. The group then moved to the 1.0-mile-long Third Infiltration Tunnel, originally built by North Korean soldiers as a covert route for a potential attack on Seoul. The final stop was the Unification Village, located within the Central Control Zone, where students explored the peaceful community inhabited by former military officers and displaced residents. By the end of the tour, students left with a greater awareness of the deep cultural and social divide caused by the war, as well as a stronger sense of connection to the humanity of the North Korean people.
