Poetic Forms

This week, we explore different types of poetry, or poetic forms.   A poetic form is a set of rules a certain type of poem follows.  These rules can include how long a poem is, such as the number of lines or syllables the poem should have.  They can also include the placement of rhymes and or the shape of a poem.  While there are lots of different poetic forms with different rules, all poets pay special attention to sound and rhythm no matter what form they use.

Explore poetic forms in the book below: learn the form, read an example, then try writing your own!
