Padlet Backpack

Padlet is a web app that lets users post notes on a digital wall. Educational applications of these virtual sticky notes are many.  Images, links, videos, and documents, and Google Maps can all be collated on a "wall" that can be made public or private.

Brookline teachers can create Padlets in our district's Backpack  organization. The Backpack version of Padlet creates a safe and managed space for students  to view and post to teacher Padlets.

Teachers can start here: https://brookline.padlet.org/. Teachers and student who log in with their Brookline Google accounts will become part of Brookline's Backpack organization. Teachers can easily import exist Padlets into their Backpack account.

Getting Started

Teachers and student who login via the "Continue with Google" with their Brookline Google account will be added to our Padlet organization. Eventually,  https://padlet.com/ will be blocked for students. It's important that teachers create new Padlets in their https://brookline.padlet.org/  account. Existing Padlets can easily be imported.

Import Exisiting Padlets

Teachers can import selected or all Padlets from their padlet.com. account. Launch the menu options by clicking the three dots at the lower left of the Padlet dashboard.

Imported Padlets will live in both locations (padlet.com and brookline.padlet.org). However, new changes will not be updated in both locations. It's best to import and then work only from brookline.padlet.org

Some users get stuck in "loop" when importing. It's a browser issue that doesn't seem to affect updated Chrome browsers. If stuck, help is available here:  Why I am stuck in a loop when importing my padlets?

Padlet Settings

Check the settings of your Padlets before you share with students.

Set the Privacy to "Org wide" [1] when sharing with students. The Padlet will then be only available to Brookline staff and students. If necessary, the Padlet can be shared outside of Brookline by choosing the "Password" option. Complete instructions for sharing outside the organization are here.

Set the Vistior Permissions [2] to "Can write" if students will be adding posts to the Padlet.

Teachers can also moderate the student posts by turning on Require Approval [3]. Teachers will have to approve each student post before others can view it.

Students can join directly from a Padlet link.

If students encounter this "You shall not pass!" message, they can click on the "Log in and retry" link and log in with their Brookline Google account.
