"Without automated movement a child will not be able to think." -A Moving Child is a Learning Child
by Gill Connell and Cheryl McCarthy
Kinetic movement is key to students being ready for academic learning. This year in Kindergarten we aim to support and develop physical movement skills both fine and gross motor skills. We will do this by playing lots of gross games and many hands-on experiential play times!
This year we will be focusing on the Power, Coordination and Control skills side of the spectrum though all Move-to-Learn Activities will be experienced.
Our first priority is always safety as caregivers. However, children need to explore their abilities to move through space and to try new things. This involves some risk. It is our job as caregivers to help children navigate from Complete Safety into the Zone of Uncertainty when something is intriguing and stimulating.
