Studies have shown that student choice is a powerful motivator in reading. The PSB Summer Reading Lists are a perfect place to start - hundreds of great books to choose from.  Let them listen to audiobooks.  

• Preserve a time for your child to read daily. 

• Keep reading together.

• Listen to audiobooks when traveling or just at home.

• Keep reading picture books. It is easy to think of picture books as “simple”, but a good picture book is anything but that.  Check out this piece from the New York Times.

• Your child’s school library includes access to ebooks and audiobooks using their brooklinek12.org account.  Sora has thousands of ebooks and audiobooks.

• Local bookstores, such as The Brookline Booksmith, Hummingbird Books, and The Frugal Bookstore.

• The Public Library of Brookline has a special shelves of Summer Reading books and offer great e and audiobook options, including Tumblebooks for younger readers.  

Be part of a reading community: sign up for the Summer Reading Programs at the Public Library of Brookline, the Boston Public Library, or whatever public library you are near this summer.  Most libraries have programs for kids and teens.
