Get an accurate fencing quote by following this simple step-by-step guide.
Whether you're replacing old panels or installing a brand-new boundary, this guide will help you measure your space confidently.
· A tape measure (in metres)
· Pen and paper to sketch your fence line (optional but helpful)
· Your phone to enter the details into the online quote form
· Are you replacing the full perimeter, just one side, or filling a gap?
· Walk your boundary and decide what you want us to quote for.
Pro Tip: If you’re not sure, measure everything — we can always scale it back.
2. Measure the Total Length of Fence Needed
· Measure in a straight line from the first post to the last along the section.
· If the fence changes direction (e.g. corner or dog-leg), break it into sections.
· Write down each section length (e.g. “Left side: 12.4m”, “Rear: 8.2m”).
You can round to the nearest 1 cm if needed.
If you’re replacing an existing panelled fence: An easier method is to simply count the number of panels, total number of posts, measure the height of a panel and also make sure to tell us what type of existing posts you have (e.g. slotted concrete, 4x4 timber, etc).
· Each panel is typically 1.83m wide (use for any calculations).
3. Estimate the Height You Want
· Standard fence heights are usually:
➤ 4ft (1.2m)
➤ 5ft (1.5m)
➤ 6ft (1.8m)
· If you have a preference for privacy, security, or planning compliance, note that down.
· If you’ll be opting for gravel boards, consider the height of the gravel boards along with the fence panels (e.g if you’re looking for a 6ft fence and opting for 12” gravel boards then you’ll need a 5ft fence panel)
5. Note Any Obstacles or Access Considerations
· Are there trees, sheds, or walls in the way?
· Is the ground flat, sloped, or stepped?
· Is there easy access for materials and tools?
6. Take Photos of the Fence
· Snap a few wide-angle photos of the area
· Take photos of the ground (incl where posts sit), any corners, and all ends of runs
You can upload these directly in the form.
7. Sketch the Fence Layout (Optional)
· Draw a rough shape of the garden with section lengths marked
· Label each side: “Left”, “Back”, “Right”, etc.
You can upload a photo of your sketch directly in the quote form.
