His conducting teachers have included Sam Jones, Kurt Muspratt, Paul Vermel, Don Portnoy and the many conductors with whom he has worked and observed for the past 40 years. Ensembles under his direction have toured the USA, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, and Brazil.

As a soloist he has often performed the standard and not-so-standard works for trumpet and orchestras. He has given the world premiere performances of many new works for trumpet and is often called upon to perform the difficult high works of the Baroque masters.

Additionally, grants from the Virginia Arts Council, North Carolina Arts Council, the Wisconsin Arts Board, the Wyoming Arts Council, Nevada Arts Council and many individuals, corporations, and foundations have funded hundreds of performance and Arts in Education residencies.
