Students over 16 years of age, and who hold a valid driver’s licence, will be allowed to bring motor vehicles to school, provided that the following are observed.
The vehicle must be parked in the space designated by the Principal. It must remain stationary from the time of arrival in the morning, until the time of dismissal in the afternoon, or at the time the driver/owner is leaving the school for the day.
Students are discouraged from being in their vehicles during the instructional day. Should, under special circumstances, it be necessary to use the vehicle during the school day, this is to be allowed only after permission has been granted by the Principal or designate. Unless otherwise approved by the Principal, only the driver/owner is allowed in the vehicle. It is to be used to go directly to and from the stated destination.
“The Principal has disciplinary authority over the conduct of each pupil of the school from the time the pupil arrives at school until the pupil departs for the day, except during any period that the pupil is absent from school at the request of his or her parent or guardian.” [M.R. 468/88]
Principals and staff, with their parent advisory councils, are responsible to develop policies in regard to the regular or ongoing use of vehicles by students during the school day.
