JFE-P1 - School Dances
SECTION J: School Administration
The Prairie Spirit School Division supports the concept of school dances as an extension of regular school activities, subject to the following guidelines:
General Guidelines:
A guest list and a late list will be required.
Accommodations for students with URIS Health Care Plans or other relevant Student Specific Plans shall be discussed between host school and guest school in order to be proactive in preparations.
Dances are to be no longer than four hours in duration.
Doors are open for one hour after the starting hour, after which time no one is allowed in unless their names are on the late list.
Dances may be held at the school or community hall.
A minimum of three chaperons must be present, one of whom must be a Teacher, and if at all possible, there should be both female and male chaperones present.
Students leaving after they are inside are not allowed to return.
Student Behaviour:
Any student who attends a school dance in the Prairie Spirit School Division and seeks entry while under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or any other abusive drug will be refused attendance. They are, however, to be detained and released to their parents, a close relative, a responsible adult who is willing to assume the responsibility or, as a last resort, to the R.C.M.P.
In the case of extreme intoxication, and where the student offers resistance, the R.C.M.P. should be called if the parents or a relative cannot be reached.
Any student who has been denied attendance due to the above reasons will receive a minimum two day suspension.
