IGC-P1 - Community Resource Persons and Volunteers
SECTION I: Instructional Programs and Services
In order to bring first hand information into the classroom, the Board encourages its professional staff members to be aware of persons in the community who are knowledgeable in certain fields and make provision for them to take part in the appropriate class work.
A professional staff member must be present when these community resource persons are working with the class. [M.R. 23/2000] See also IG.
The Prairie Spirit School Division encourages and approves of the use of volunteers in the schools, at the discretion of the Principals.
Each volunteer must be a responsible person working under the direct supervision of a Teacher designated by the Principal of the school. [M.R. 23/2000]
Volunteers who work with individual students on a regular basis may be required to agree to a criminal record and abuse registry check (see also GAB), and to complete a Pledge of Confidentiality (See GBP).
Some typical duties performed by school volunteers are as follows:
Assist the Teacher in making charts, graphs, and other teaching aids.
Assist the Teacher in large groups activities.
