IGB-P0 - Acceptable Use of Electronic Technology

SECTION I: Instructional Programs and Services

The Internet, email

We are pleased to offer students, employees and trustees of Prairie Spirit School Division with access to divisional computer networks for Internet, electronic mail, and other services.  We believe that the use of such services in the School Division will greatly enhance the ability of students and staff to provide new and exciting learning opportunities for our students.  Access is a privilege and not a right.  To gain access all students under the age of 18 must obtain parental permission and must have their parent/guardian sign and return this Acceptable Use of Electronic Technology Regulation (IGB-E1) to the school annually.  Students over the age of 18 may sign their own forms.

Digital personal communication devices

The Division supports a policy to limit or prohibit the use by its pupils of smartphones while the pupils are at a school site or while the pupils are under the supervision and control of an employee or employees of the school division.

A pupil shall not be prohibited from possessing or using a smartphone under any of the following circumstances:

(1) When a teacher or administrator of the school grants permission to a pupil to possess or use a smartphone, subject to any reasonable limitation imposed by that teacher or administrator.

(2) When a primary care physician determines that the possession or use of a smartphone is necessary for the health or well-being of the pupil.
