SECTION I: Instructional Programs and Services


The Prairie Spirit School Division’s instructional goals consist of presenting students with opportunities to learn, to develop, and to prepare for the future according to their abilities, interests, and initiatives, within the requirements of Manitoba Education.  This process is directed toward the development of responsible, tolerant, and creative citizens able to participate in a democratic society.


The following objectives (not in order of priority) are identified as guideposts in the development of an educational program for the pupils of the Division.

(a) To ensure that students achieve the curricular outcomes of the Manitoba Education programs of studies, in accordance with their individual capacity.

(b) To develop within each learner, the ability to reason and apply knowledge, and to stimulate within each learner intellectual curiosity and growth to the best of his or her ability.

(c) To help students develop and maintain good physical and mental health.

(d) To develop a positive self-image with the realization of each student’s unique set of moral, intellectual, and physical attributes.

(e) To develop an understanding and appreciation of the democratic process and a desire to be an active participant in that process.

(f) To cultivate respect and appreciation for the basic social institutions which nurture the individual: the family, the community, and the nation.

(g) To develop a desire to make the most of oneself through awareness of one’s strengths and limitations.

(h) To develop in each student a respect for the dignity, the rights, and the worth of all individuals.

(i) To develop an ability to deal constructively with the tensions and pressures created by a changing society.

(j) To develop an understanding of the role of technology in our society; to actively promote the acquisition of skills in the use of technology.

 (k) To assist students with the acquisition of available skills in the field of their choice, which will enable them to make their place in the economic world.

(l) To help students become knowledgeable consumers of material goods and services.

(m) To help students develop avocational interests which are satisfying and which provide for worthy use of their leisure time.

(n) To foster and stimulate in each learner the desire for lifelong learning.

(o) To develop an appreciation of our Canadian heritage and our multicultural society.

(p) To develop a basic understanding, appreciation, and working knowledge of the fundamentals of art, music, and the social sciences.

(q) To develop within students respect for and appreciation of the maintenance, protection, and improvement of the natural environment.
