Immediate Supervisor: Transportation Supervisor
Qualifications
Should be licensed in one of the following trades:
Transport truck bus mechanic;
Heavy duty mechanic;
Automotive mechanic;
Must obtain a School Bus Inspection Mechanic Certificate;
Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License as a minimum;
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Personal Suitability
Must possess a supervisory/leadership ability, including communication, human relations skills, and organizational skills;
Must be self-motivated and able to work on his/her own whenever required; and,
Must be physically capable of performing all the duties related to this position.
Responsibilities
Operate the Division Bus Garage as per the hours specified by the Board and/or Senior Administration;
Maintain all Division school buses in a condition that provides safety at all times and conforms to all Division, provincial, and federal regulations; and,
Keep the Transportation Supervisor informed of any problems regarding mechanical, staffing, or safety issues.
Description of Duties
Have all rotationally scheduled maintenance, as well as all other service performed on each unit, and record in unit log book;
Perform six month inspections on units to comply with Provincial and Federal Regulations and sign inspection certificates with proper dates;
Use the work order system to keep track of repairs performed on individual units. All work orders are to be filled out appropriately;
Repair all Division vehicles, lawn mowers, and snow blowers;
Make written reports on all unusual maintenance problems, dents or untidy buses to the Transportation Supervisor;
Maintain a clean and safe garage and property in a manner that will ensure safety for himself/herself and others;
Maintain a record of all parts used and cost of the same. Order parts as required for immediate use and for stock. All invoices for parts/materials are to be sent to the Division Office on a regular basis;
Update the Transportation Supervisor on any changes in school bus design that will provide a safer vehicle and more economical operation;
Take safety precautions when servicing buses;
Submit a record of all time-off requests for each employee immediately to the Transportation Supervisor;
Direct Mechanic’s Helper in all work duties;
Maintain up-to-date Material Safety Data Sheets for all products in use and comply with all other W.H.M.I.S. Regulations;
Maintain an inventory list which must be sent to the Division Office on request;
Assist in the deployment of buses and/or other equipment as required; and,
Be willing to perform other related duties as may be directed by the Transportation Supervisor.
