SECTION G: Personnel
Immediate Supervisor: The Principal of the school and the Maintenance Supervisor.
Qualifications/Personal Suitability
Knowledge of custodial work and willingness/ability to learn;
Must have initiative and good judgment;
Must be a self-directed individual;
Ability to deal courteously/tactfully with co-workers, students, staff, and the public;
Must be physically capable of performing all of the duties related to this position;
Must be able to perform minor maintenance repairs (plumbing, carpentry, electrical, etc.);
Must have two or more years experience in cleaning methods/procedures;
Must have experience with steam heating systems, boiler operation, where applicable;
Must have supervisory/leadership ability and communication and human relations skills;
Must have a minimum of two years experience in building maintenance and operations;
Must have training or experience sufficient to perform tasks such as building maintenance, care of grounds, use of hand and power tools, and the operation of machinery, (e.g., snowblower, riding mower, tractor); and,
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License.
Responsibilities
To provide students with a clean and safe environment in which to learn, play, and develop;
Maintain time records and submit a record of all requests for time off the job to the Maintenance Supervisor;
Supervise the work of all custodial and maintenance personnel in the school;
Inform assistant custodial staff about the work quality and performance expectations;
Prepare and post work schedules in the Custodian’s room, ensuring that all work is distributed as fairly as possible. These schedules shall be subject to the approval of the Maintenance Supervisor;
Train Custodian Assistants;
Repair, adjust and monitor boilers, ventilation systems, heaters, and any other mechanical/electrical devices within his/her ability;
Maintain the buildings/grounds;
Check and record all AEDs (Automated External Defribrilators) on a monthly basis;
Supervise the work of all custodial personnel in the facility; and,
Prepare written performance evaluations of each assistant under his/her supervision.
Description of Duties
Perform regular and major cleaning duties;
Order and maintain supplies and materials;
Maintain the buildings and grounds, the equipment and furnishings, ensuring their safety and security;
Maintain the heating equipment, the plumbing, and the electrical systems and ensure weekend check is completed;
Cater to the public use of buildings and grounds;
Assist with new construction and renovations;
Supervise assistants; and,
Perform other general duties as required.
