Immediate Supervisor(s): Superintendent’s department

Qualifications:

Must possess a minimum of Post Baccalaureate in counselling or related field in student services. 

a. completes five years of approved experience in two or more of the following areas:

i. regular classroom teaching,

ii. school counsellor, or special class teaching, or other related student services field,

iii. approved clinical or special agency work at a professional level such as psychology, reading, social work, speech and hearing, 

iv. consultative or supervisory experience such as school administrator or department head. [M.R. 515/88 211.] 

b. A minimum of two years’ experience as a School Counsellor or related fields, preferably at the early, middle and senior years levels.

c. A comprehensive understanding of Student Services assessment/testing procedures and techniques.

d. Strong leadership abilities; demonstrated professional commitment, and above average interpersonal skills.

e. Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License.

Position Summary

To give leadership and direction to all aspects of Appropriate Educational Programming and service within the Prairie Spirit School Division, including the direction of staff for the prioritization of referrals for specialized assessment.

Collaborates with division student services team members, school staff, students, and parents to determine appropriate and specific intervention supports Tier 2-3. for students who may be experiencing a variety of difficulties that are affecting their education and overall well being. 

Promotes and guides prevention education division/school/class wide Tier 1. in the area of social-emotional-behavioural skill development 

Duties and Responsibilities

Without in any way restricting the generality of the foregoing, the Student Support Services Administrator shall:

a. Be responsible for the long term planning, coordination and development of programs in the areas of Student Services Service Delivery; 

b. Assist the Superintendent’s department with the recruitment and selection of staff, both teaching and non teaching, who fall under the Student Services Department

c. Supervisory support role with clinicians as designated.

d. Be responsible for establishing and maintaining assessment and referral procedures to ensure Appropriate Educational Programming.

e. Be responsible for the long term planning which will lead to the establishment, maintenance and evaluation of initiatives in the area of Appropriate Education.

f. Assist schools in linking to community agencies for student programming.

g. Coordinate regular meetings and professional development sessions for staff who fall within the student services department.

h. Provide support for Resource Teachers and School Counsellors and Clinicians for Appropriate Educational Programming.

i. Provide support to families to facilitate student success.

j. Collect and compile the necessary data and financial information required by the Secretary-Treasurer’s Department and Manitoba Education for the purposes of long term planning.

k. Assist in coordinating the services of outside agencies to school age children, as per Manitoba Education Guidelines.

l. Assume the responsibility for professional growth and development through attendance at educational conferences and workshops related to Appropriate Educational programming.

m. Manitoba Education Categorical Grant distribution, budget responsibilities and reporting as assigned.

n. Coordination, chairperson, and/or participation in divisional, regional, and provincial initiatives and committees as appropriate.

o. Perform such tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent’s department.
