GCNA-P0 - Supervision and Evaluation of Professional Clinical Staff

SECTION G: Personnel

The supervision and evaluation of professional staff is the responsibility of the Superintendent’s department.

The Superintendent’s department delegates authority to Principals and thus places responsibility on them, to supervise the day-to-day operations of their school staff. Supervision and evaluation of clinical staff generally has one main objective: accountability.  The objective of professional growth, typically part of a supervision and evaluation process, is reserved for the regulatory bodies that certify the clinical staff working with the Prairie Spirit School Division.  For accountability reasons, supervision and evaluation of clinical staff needs to support personnel management decisions, whether those are about contractual obligations, competency, retention, reassignment, or renegotiation of services.

The Professional Clinical Staff Evaluation will be used for personnel working within the Prairie Spirit School Division who provide services in the areas of: School Psychology; Audiology and Speech Language Pathology; Social Work; Occupational Therapy; or Physiotherapy. The contractual obligations of the clinician will guide the supervision and evaluation of professional staff. Any duties related to classroom-based instruction may also be evaluated by the Superintendent and/or his/her delegate. Supervision and evaluation of clinical knowledge, skills and attributes shall be conducted by a qualified supervisor. For the purposes of Policy GCNA, it is the final report from the qualified supervisor that will be combined with the evaluation of contractual obligations and any teaching-related activities to create the full Professional Clinical Staff Evaluation.  For the purposes of this Policy, a qualified supervisor shall:

The Performance Evaluation – Professional Clinical Staff (Parts 1 and 2) will be used for school psychologists, speech and language pathologists, occupational/physical therapists, and social workers.

The Performance Evaluation – School Counsellor/Resource Teacher will be used for Counsellors and Resource Teachers.
