The decision for acquisition and maintenance of food services in each school shall be left to the Principal and staff of that school.
Canteen
The operation of school canteens is subject to the following guidelines.
Items of nutritional value are to be promoted.
All items are to be moderately priced.
All profits shall be used for the benefit of all students of the school.
Regulations of the Fire Department regarding the use of cooking appliances and utensils, and safety requirements are to be strictly enforced.
Regulations of the Department of Health must be followed.
A record of receipts and expenditures shall be maintained by the adult in charge and submitted to the School Principal.
An annual statement of receipts and expenditures shall be submitted to the Secretary-Treasurer’s department. (See also DE)
Vending Machines
Permission to place and/or operate vending machines within a school shall be at the discretion of the Principal, in consultation with Senior Administration.
Food Sanitation Program:
The proper sanitary conditions for food and drink services shall be maintained in the school. The Principal or appointed staff members shall make frequent checks, and when in doubt as to the level of sanitation, suspend the service until deficiencies are rectified. Consultation with the local health authorities may be beneficial in determining whether sanitary conditions are at an acceptable level.
