It is the policy of the Board that all textbooks, Division materials and equipment shall be adequately maintained and cared for. It is the responsibility of Principals to set up control measures to prevent the loss of school property, and to establish inventory and inspection procedures which will have the effect of revealing any losses speedily.
Equipment assigned to a school will remain in that school and be placed on that school’s inventory listing. Repairs will be coordinated by technology personnel, through the school administration.
Staff should impress upon students the need to take proper care of textbooks and other educational resources. Restitution will be claimed for willful damage, neglect, or loss of same.
Should surplus stock allow it, textbooks may be loaned to home-schooling students. (See also IFF)
Careful use of equipment and facilities is requested at all times.
Clean running shoes must be worn by all people engaged in Physical Education activities.
Rubbers, overshoes, hobnailed boots or high-heeled shoes will not usually be allowed in the gymnasium.
Equipment will be stored when not in use.
Proper safety precautions will be taken when using facilities and equipment.
Any damage will be reported immediately to the Principal.
Use of storage space by outside groups is subject to the approval of the Principal.
Equipment shall be checked on an ongoing basis by appropriate personnel, reports made and necessary repairs made immediately. Schools must ensure that all equipment is in proper storage for the summer holiday period. All equipment should be cleaned and placed in storage rooms provided, or in other designated areas of the school. All signs and bulletins are to be removed from gymnasium walls and bulletin boards at the conclusion of the academic year. An up-to-date inventory on all equipment will also be taken and will be filed with the Principal.
To prevent loss of valuable equipment over the summer vacation period, the Principal should ensure that such equipment is not left stored in classrooms, when possible. Such equipment should be properly stored under lock and key and left in charge of the Custodian.
