Policy# 15 - Sustainable Development and Environmental Awareness
The Prairie Spirit School Division is committed to creating a healthy, ecological, economic and socially responsible living and learning environment for all students and staff, as well as to highlight the Division as a model of best practice for the whole community. This commitment will be accomplished through the review of the latest research-based sustainable living information, practices and regulations, and the development of procedures and practices in the following categories:
Education through provincial curricula;
Awareness of sustainable living practices;
Professional development;
Energy management;
Environmental management of facilities and grounds;
Hazardous waste management and disposal;
Material use;
Procurement and purchasing;
Waste management and recycling;
Transportation; and
Compliance to federal, provincial and municipal regulations.
Responsibilities
The Board is responsible for ensuring sustainable development and environmental awareness are integrated into strategic planning and decision making. The Division will endeavour to allocate the resources needed to achieve the desired outcomes and to monitor and evaluate those outcomes.
Senior Administration is responsible for the development of procedures, practices and plans, and reporting on outcomes.
