The Newspaper Club writes and publishes the Wildcat Press, an online publication that can be found on our Pinelands website. We aim to feature our junior high school students in this newspaper. In an article entitled, “Why a Newspaper Club is Important for Your School,” the author cites four important reasons for continuing the tradition of a school newspaper:
“Students need a voice with the freedom to express themselves in a manner that is respectful, thoughtful, and accepted.”
“Journalism will never die. Regardless of the way technology evolves and changes, there will always be a need for writers and those with the skill to turn a word and voice an opinion.”
“Students learn valuable skills such as writing, editing, design, and layout. Seeing the pride a student takes in his [or her] work is invaluable.”
“Our school newspaper provides our students with a means of student discovery… and an opportunity to connect people to each other in ways they never knew. There are students, teachers, and administrators with interesting stories that the student body would benefit from hearing.”
