School Safety

Working Together for School Safety

COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION ARE KEY

Through communication and collaboration with all stakeholders, schools have the opportunity to be better prepared in the event of a disaster. Keeping our schools safe requires communication and collaboration on the part of administrators; teachers and staff; students; parents; and first responders including police, fire, and EMS.

Although we cannot control all of the events or actions that lead to a school crisis, we can create planned, systematic, and coordinated responses such as regularly implemented safety drills and encouraging open & frequent communication, which will facilitate a comprehensive and thoughtful reaction to a crisis.

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is a partnership between the Illinois Terrorism Task Force and Western Illinois University.   The program provides awareness and preparedness training, along with valuable resources for planning, responding to, and recovering from an emergency or disaster.
