A student’s Diagnostic can be reset when they have not completed the assessment. This often happens when teachers are proctoring and notice a student not taking it seriously, or something else doesn’t seem correct. An assessment cannot be reset if the student has completed the assessment.
A teacher can reset a Diagnostic that is still in progress. This can be done by clicking on the student’s name on the Diagnostic Results report. You will then see an option to click reset test.
Should I retest students after they have completed a Diagnostic?
In general, we only recommend retesting students who have received a red or yellow Rush flag. Retesting may also be appropriate when students have taken the Diagnostic remotely and are then able to retest at school or with additional remote proctoring. When considering whether to retest, review the Diagnostic Results (Student) report and other information about the student. If results do not seem representative of what the student knows and can do, check with your administrator to determine whether retesting is appropriate. Also consider scheduling and student engagement as part of your decision.
Always follow district or school guidance related to retesting. If considering retesting during the beginning-of-year Diagnostic window: A student must start the new Diagnostic within 21 days of completing their first Diagnostic in order for the new test to be used as the baseline for growth measures.
Note: Retesting and resetting a Diagnostic are not the same. Retesting means a student has already completed the Diagnostic and will complete an additional one assigned by an educator. Resetting a Diagnostic means that the student has a Diagnostic currently in progress that will start from the beginning once reset.
