Dear Families,

School starts at 8 a.m. sharp on Monday morning. The expectation is that all students will be logged on and ready to engage in learning.

At no other time in recent history has the idea of “community” been more important to education. Over the next several weeks, Providence Public Schools and families will be partners in delivering, monitoring and supporting the education of our city’s children. On our end, teachers, school leaders and administrators are coming together to create at-home learning experiences and to use technology to keep this new, distance learning community connected with one another.

On your end, we ask that you help us by maintaining a school-day routine with your child and making sure that you maximize learning opportunities at home. School runs from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a two-hour break for lunch between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Please start the day by signing into the Google attendance sheets, which will be distributed by email and text message. Teachers will be taking attendance.

We do not expect this new initiative to roll out seamlessly, either on your end or on ours. This is a huge shift in how we deliver teaching, and we are all learning as we go along. Thank you for your flexibility and patience as we make this happen for our kids.

The most important thing you can do if you need us is to reach out to us for help. Your child’s teacher will be sharing information with you about the best ways to connect. We want you to use those channels regularly. They are the equivalent to raising your hand in class.

We are committed to student learning, and we know you are too. Thank you for being partners in education during this unprecedented time.

La escuela comienza a las 8 a.m. en punto el lunes por la mañana. La expectativa es que todos los estudiantes inicien su sesión a remoto y estén listos para participar en el aprendizaje.

En ningún otro momento en la historia reciente, la idea de "comunidad" ha sido más importante para la educación. Durante las próximas semanas, las Escuelas Públicas de Providence y las familias serán socios para brindar, monitorear y apoyar la educación de los niños de nuestra ciudad. Por nuestra parte, los maestros, los líderes escolares y los administradores se están uniendo para crear experiencias de aprendizaje en el hogar y utilizar la tecnología para mantener a esta nueva comunidad de aprendizaje a distancia conectada entre sí.

Por su parte, le pedimos que nos ayude manteniendo una rutina de día escolar con su hijo(a) y asegurándose de maximizar las oportunidades de aprendizaje en el hogar. La escuela es de 8 a.m. a 3:30 p.m., con un descanso de dos horas para el almuerzo entre las 11 a.m. y la 1 p.m. Comience el día marcando la asistencia en las hojas de Google (Google sheets), que se distribuirán por correo electrónico y mensaje de texto. Los maestros tomarán asistencia.

No esperamos que esta nueva iniciativa se desarrolle sin problemas, ya sea de su parte o de la nuestra.
