Application Process
year-long Art 1 is offered to 7th graders & year-long art 2 is offered to 8th graders who took art 1 in 7th grade. Projects increase in difficulty level + a student's ability to create work from original concepts. Students are also expected to compete in a UIL art competition that takes place on a Saturday in Plano in the month of april. Students are also rewarded with an art tour field trip.
PORTFOLIO WORK | You will need to show 5-6 artworks. 1 will be a high quality work that shows creativity & craftsmanship. At least 2 more artworks must be observational drawings- these are drawings from real life, not a photograph or your imagination. They do not need to be fully developed and can be sketches. You also need 2 or 3 pages of sketchbook-type work that shows brainstorming, ideation, and refinement of your ideas.
PORTFOLIO SUBMISSION | Open the Google Slide below, on the left. Insert your 5-6 artworks on slides, and add text to explain each artwork and its completion dates. You will upload it to the google form linked below.

Use this google form to discuss your experience, intentions and personal style. You will also attach your slide show portfolio in the form.
Once the application window closes, the portfolio & application will be evaluated by the art committee and the 20-25 selected will be notified by email of their admittance. The remainder will remain in semester-long Art 2. The list of 20-25 will be sent to the school counselors to add the year-long advanced art class to their schedule.
