COVER & PAGE NUMBERS

In Unit 6 you built a Magazine Cover. You will take the same cover and edit your article titles. You may choose to change any design elements you wish.

You must still include:

  • Title of your magazine
  • Same environmental photo background
  • 3 article titles that replace your unit 6 titles
    • One for Black & White Photography
    • One for Product Photography
    • One for the Program Highlight
  • Name Information (first/last, photojournalism, date, grade)

Add 4 more pages to your magazine.

Add a page number to every page except the cover

  • This should be consistent in style on every page

PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY

You will create a one page product advertisement in your Magazine. You will need to use the design skills you picked up in Unit 6 to make a well organized ad. Look to the professionals for inspiration. You may use a template in InDesign and customize the way you need it. You will bring in a new item to take pictures. You may NOT use food as your product & nothing with a brand.

  • Decide your target audience and design accordingly (adults vs kids or boys vs girls etc)
  • You must include the following on your ad page:
    1. Product Name
    2. Product Slogan
    3. 3-5 visually appealing photographs that utilizes macro photography & composition techniques. You really have to think of staging your product and light! You may only use a person in a photo up to one time.
    4. The price of your product
    5. A product description

BLACK & WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY

  • Find 3-5 objects that when in black & white you can still “see” the color.
    1. Examples: pumpkins are always orange, watermelons are always green on the outside, army men are always green.
    2. Non-examples: flowers, jewelry, clothing, shoes, balloons
  • Take pictures using black & white photography techniques that you learned through the Nearpod. Minimum three images of three different objects, max 5 pictures of five different objects.
  • Use Photoshop or Lightroom (Lightroom is GREAT for black & white) to change your image to black & white.
  • In Photoshop, use selective color to bring just the object back in color.
  • In the following order you will add your photos to the next page in your Magazine: Black & white photo, selective color photo. This page should have a big emphasis on alignment!
  • Add a title to your page.

SCHOOL FLYER

You will create a one page flyer for the final page of your magazine. This flyer will highlight one program that students may join at Hays Middle School.

You must include the following:

  1. Page Title
  2. 3-5 photos highlighting the program & explaining the purpose
  3. 1 caption that includes the ABCD model of storytelling about this program
  4. 3 Other short facts about this program- the details about what they do, how you join or when could you take this course.

You must use composition techniques in your photos, design elements to create a neat and attractive looking flyer, and appropriate colors and font (styles and size) to make your flyer readable.

You may work with a partner to take photos and write your caption & facts. You may even choose the same design elements, but you will each need to make the flyer on your own in your InDesign Magazine.

All flyers will be printed and taped in the hallway for everyone to see the information about your group!
