As students head back to school in 2022 we will begin Unit 3, Stories From the Past Impact Our Future.
Storytelling is at the heart of this unit. Fourth graders will read dramas and children's literature. As they read, students will revisit plot elements, character traits, and setting. They will explore the ideas of theme/message and point of view, thinking “How can the lessons I learn from stories impact my own life? Fourth graders will have opportunities to tell their own stories, revisiting a personal narrative, composing poetry, writing their own folktale/fable/fairy tale, or adapting one of their compositions into a drama.
Our goals for this unit will be to have our fourth graders be able to indepently:
read and respond to a range of increasing complex texts, in a range of various genres and purposes
Analyze an author's message through their use of figurative language, sentence structure and tone
Write in various genres for various audiences, in order to explain, entertain, argue, guide, and challenge.
