Yes! This is our number one asked question by students and parents. Almost every kid in the Williston Music Department is involved in something else such as Dance, Drill, Boy/Girl Scouts, sports, 4H, Honor Society and the list goes on! All directors in Williston Music work hard to communicate with coaches and make sure you can do both!
Is band during the school day?
Yes! We meet every day in like instrument classes so your child receives the best instruction to learn their instrument. Nearly all our full band rehearsals also take place during school.
Are there practices outside the school day?
Only for two events: Band-O-Rama and Band Day
Band-O-Rama has two practices: One during the school day with all bands 6-12 the day before the concert and one just before the concert begins.
For Band Day, the 6th grade band has rehearsals after school to practice marching starting at the end of April. This is where we work with coaches and other activities to make sure you can still attend band and your other commitments.
How much practice time is required?
The amount of practice a student puts in will determine their success on their instrument. We recommend 60-90 minutes a week for absolute success. Mrs. Stepan's room is available in the mornings and after school if you are unable to practice at home AND there are lots of ways to practice without playing.
How many concerts are there in a school year?
The Wildcat Band performs in the following performances:
Show-Off Winter Concert - December 3rd - 7:00PM
Band-O-Rama - March 8 7:00PM
Band Day - May 8 - Saturday before Mother's Day

You can also audition for the Wildcat Honor Band in the spring and be a part of more performances for our elementary schools, school board and city council. Those performances are announced after auditions have concluded.

COVID19 UPDATES:
If we are unable to perform as usual in our auditorium, we will do a virtual concert where kids are recorded prior to the concert. This recording will either take place during school, or if we go to virtual learning students will submit a recording of themselves doing the music to a click-track and all tracks will be compiled by the director to make a virtual performance.
