Our sport year

Waiheke High School has two huge sport days in its academic year: Athletics Day and Beach Sports Day. With big house points on the line and teacher vs student races finishing each day, there's pride, sweat and glory at stake!

Athletics day

Relays, sprints, throwing and jumps...it's all there at the Waiheke High School Athletic's Day.

Beach Sports day

One of the only schools to run a beach day in New Zealand, Waiheke High School students get to swim, kayak, play beach volleyball, race for beach pegs and heave in tug o'war.

Sports offered throughout the year.

Waiheke High School is part of the Central Zone sports (for year 7 and 8) and College Sport leagues and tournaments (central zone for Year 9-13). This means we compete with other intermediates and high schools in the central Auckland area in various sport codes. There are additional costs involved for students to be part of these sports teams, but we try and keep these costs as low as we can so as to ensure everyone has an opportunity to join in.

Various one day tournaments and leagues run throughout the year, with Central Zone sports for year 7 and 8s only running single day events, and College Sport offering a mix of single day and sport leagues such as football and netball. Generally speaking, you'll see swimming, tennis, athletics, volleyball and orienteering running in Term 1. Term 2 will introduce winter sports such as football, rugby and futsal, with Year 9 and up Waiheke High School teams taking part in rugby and football leagues and netball one day tournaments. Term 3 will continue with netball as well as cross country, and rugby league with Term 4 rounding off the year with touch rugby, badminton, athletics (year 7-8) and basketball.
