Equitable Student Parking- Skateboard Racks
Freedom of Expression- Wearing Plaid Shirts as Jackets
NO BULLYING-- by Everyone on campus, inc. the adults.
Adequate access to more than just a few, clean bathrooms with soap, towels and toilet paper.
There's been a long standing campus debate on whether to install skateboard racks or not. Why are skateboarders denied the right of a rack while people who ride bikes get a bike rack? Worse, students that CARRY their boards on campus get detention, after legally skating to school. Does that sound fair to you? Well it doesn't sound fair to many, including me. ~Mario
Supposedly, we're a poor school that qualifies for extra federal money. If so, why can't students wear flannels, which are a teenage wardrobe staple as a jacket, that would not cover their uniform logo?
Yeah. We all have moments of getting angry or disrespectful at times, or sneaking use of contraband items. Students get detention, or worse. What about for campus adults? Should classrooms be free from personal cell phone use & eating for all (unless a party situation)?
Our recent worldwide virus threat has put a big emphasis on cleanliness practices. What do we need to change at WMS to ensure low risk of disease spread? After all, 19 former students in 1942 were infected with Typhoid Fever from "poor sanitation practices". Click here for details.
While there have been many students trying to gain a rack for skateboarders, one current student has done extensive work in looking at what OTHER schools have offered to their students. Clink here (pending), to learn more about her efforts and findings!
One former student, who was from Scottland, officially started the WMS campus campaign to "free plaid and flannels from WMS's naughty list"! Is it time to let students wear them as jackets? Click here (pending) to see her findings.
We all should walk the talk. Here are tudent comments & observations about this topic.
