What is FLL?

FIRST LEGO League

FLL is short for a program called FIRST® LEGO® League. It is avalible to grades 4-8 and thrives on creativity. The program consists of three seperate parts; the robot game, the project, and core values. Each year it is associated with a theme. The 2018-19 theme is Into Orbit, so the robot table is space themed and the project has to solve a problem in space. FIRST offers other programs that ultimately range from kindergarten to grade 12, and each program varies. To sign up, go to the FIRST® website.

The Robot Game

Use a LEGO EV3 to build and program a robot capable of scoring points on the table. There are many mission models to score at, and each one score a different amount of points by doing a different thing. We have found jigs to be especially useful for completing these missions.

The Project

Your team will come up with a solution related to the season's topic. It must be brand new, or an improvement to an existing solution. Use professional resources to get ideas and feedback for your solution. Once completed, you must share your ideas in some sort of presentation to the judges.

Core Values

Demonstrate to the judges how you work as a team through a challenging task. Be sure to include everyone, communicate, and plan. Show the judges how you used discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, and teamwork.
