Pack 227 is comprised of one or more “Den” per age group/grade from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Each rank level from Lions to Webelos is detailed below, and plans meetings and activities that bests suits that group of boys. Dens, run by parent volunteers called Den Leaders, typically meet 2 to 4 times a month. Additionally, we as an entire Pack meet with all Dens together at least once a month to hand out awards, do program, and go on trips as one big group. The program has a wide variety of activities for every taste and is sure to have something for everyone. Check out our calendar to get a taste of what’s coming up.
The Lion Cub program is for Kindergarten age boys who would like to get involved in a great program that teaches life skills and values in a fun and exciting way. Boys get together in their Den(s) with volunteer leaders and their adult partners (parent/guardian) to learn at meetings and go on Grand Adventures to see and try things that they may not have before.
Tigers are 1st graders who get to meet each month to work on achievements as well as to go to “Go See It’s” which are activities designed to reinforce what the boys are learning as a Den. With their Tiger Coordinator and the support of each adult partner, the boys’ program takes them through a great variety of activities during the year. Like with Lions, the program may still be new, but it is a good fit for every experience level and helps to set the boys on a great adventure up the Scouting trail.
In 2nd and 3rd grade, boys work on the ranks of “Wolf” and “Bear”. Many have been in the same Den of Scouts since Lions or Tigers, and perhaps some new friends have joined in along the way. As they get older, the program gets to be more specific and deeper for their better understanding of the world.
In 4th and part of 5th grade, Scouts are a part of the Webelos I and Webelos II program. Webelos stands for “We Be Loyal Scouts”, which is one thing they’ll learn. In order to get their Webelos rank and later awards, the boys and their Den Leaders choose certain electives based on a variety of vocations that may interest the group. The boys are also able to start exploring the Boy Scout program, which is what they will graduate into at the completion of their time in Cub Scouts. The final goal of Cub Scouting advancement is the Arrow of Light award, which a boy can earn before he graduates from Cub Scouting into Boy Scouting. The Webelos II program ends at our Blue and Gold Banquet and Graduation Ceremony, where they will bid the Pack farewell and continue on with the Boy Scout program, which goes until age 18.
