Policy on Puppies as Presents

This policy primarily goes for Christmas time, but really can be placed in any situation when thinking about getting a puppy as a gift for someone, especially a child. Puppies are a lifetime commitment 12-14 years on average, this means you can't just get one and throw it away. While we do have return policies here at Iota, we like to not use it if we don't have to we prefer the puppies go to one home for the rest of their wonderful lives. With all of this being said we would like to discuss a policy we are going to be adopting if you want to get a puppy for a gift. We saw another kennel using this idea and loved it (if you are that kennel please let us know so we can give you credit, we couldn't remember for the life of us who had it and we truly apologize!!)

We work hard at Iota Kennels to try and ensure that we don't have puppies around the Christmas season, for many reasons. It allows us to spend time with our families and friends without worry for the puppies at home. The same goes for a new home, bringing a puppy in isn't the best for people as the puppy won't get adequate attention and bonding opportunities if the family is always running around. On top of the bonding time, puppies shouldn't be exposed to many new things until they have had their three puppy vaccinations, too many new people and places can put your puppy at risk.

Here is the method to getting a puppy as a gift that we prefer to go through, especially at Christmas time.

1. Fill out an application on our Adoption Process Page.

2. Once you are approved, we will put you on a waiting list.

3. We suggest then instead of having the puppy to give as a gift you can give things such as a kennel, food/water dishes, toys, collar, leash, etc. If you wish we can send you something for your purchase such as a certificate or letter from us.

We hope you understand our policies on puppies as presents. Thanks!
