With your lease winding down or the home of your dreams close to closing, you might be wondering “What should I expect our move to cost?” In the simplist terms, it comes down to two essential costing options… DIY vs moving contractors. For many of us, cost is the largest consideration when we plan a move. If you are moving soon, you are likely wondering, should I move things myself with the goal of “saving money” or hire a contractor? To help you make this decision, we’ve taken time to compile basic costing information for moving essentials. (All costs estimated based upon a distance less than 100 miles with 2 movers.)
DIY:
Truck- 100$- 400$ (Truck rental, mileage charge, insurance, GAS!
Utility Dollys- 7$-10$ ea/d
Furniture Dollys- 7$-10$ ea/d (Commonly use 2 to move couches)
Tools- Dependent upon needs
Moving Blankets- 15$-25$ per dozen/d
Your Time!- This is a large component to consider! We don’t often think of this, but our time does hold value!
(All prices estimated based upon common market valuations and are not guaranteed prices. This article is only meant to provide a rough estimate of basic potential moving costs to consider.)Moving Contractor- Most reputable local moving companies charge between 70$-100$ per hour for 2 movers. It is important to check with your contractor as to what this hourly charge includes because many companies have hidden fees and charge for any additional services!
