The Department has a very active and well recognized Extension unit. That comprises of 3 important sections, namely;
Floriculture and Landscaping
Mushroom Cultivation
Vermicomposting
The Certificate course in Allied Agricultural Skills, engaged by the Department, encompasses practical training in all the three sections with an effort to present a coherent image of these contemporary topics. The course has been recognized by R.T.M Nagpur University.
The objective highlights of this Course program are the following
Impart practical training on the various techniques used for Floriculture and Landscaping
Extend knowledge on Maintenance, Watering Schedule / Drainage, Weeding, Hoeing and Protection
Educate on the Designing of Landscape including selection of green plants and flowers, lawns, natural elements stones and pebbles etc
This Course program encompasses the following features
Empowering students, with an alternative source of income
Imparting hands-on training on the techniques of edible mushroom cultivation
Training on sterilization, maintenance and harvest of mushroom crop
Training in basic laboratory techniques essential for mushroom cultivation
The Course curriculum includes;
Understanding the structural requirements of a vermicompost pit.
Nature of the feeds and time spans
Maintenance of the worm population
