My name is Emily Martin, and I'm a junior at Columbia University in the City of New York pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Drama & Theatre Arts with a special concentration in Education Studies. Before transferring to Columbia in Fall 2020, I spent my freshman year at The Sargent Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Stage Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, where I was also involved in the Impact Scholars Honors Program.
I am a proud alumni of International Thespian Society Troupe #3310, where I served as the Chair of the International Thespian Officers for the Educational Theatre Association and International Thespian Society and as a State Thespian Officer At Large for the Kansas Thespians Chapter. These wonderful opportunities allowed me to travel across the country and work with other student and adult leaders from nearly every state, including New York City and Washington D.C., as well as take part in theatre advocacy events such as the Americans for the Arts' National Arts Action Summit and the Educational Theatre Association's Theatre in Our Schools Month.
I have been recognized for my stage management through Superior ratings at both the State Chapter and National Individual Events Showcases at the State and International Thespian Festivals (Oklahoma!, 2017, Anatomy of Gray, 2018, and Bring It On, 2019). I have also been recognized by my high school Thespian Troupe with a Star of the Show award (The Addams Family, 2016) and Best Stage Manager awards (Oklahoma!, 2017, Disney's The Little Mermaid, 2018, and The Sound of Music, 2019). In 2019, I earned the Arts Council of Johnson County's Shooting Stars: Design and Production scholarship award for my stage management work. I have also been recognized for my arts education advocacy and leadership work through the Educational Theatre Association's President's Leadership Scholarship (2019).
