With 2,500 you'll understand around 98% of written Chinese, and knowing all the 4000 we have listed on these page will enable you to understand virtually 100%. With that, even a native Chinese would be considered literate.

Chinese Measure Words (Order by Pinyin)(語法:量詞)

In the Chinese language, simple numerals cannot quantify an object by itself. Measure words, also known as classifiers, are used along with numberals to define the quantity of an object or objects. There are two types of such measure words, nominal and verbal, with the latter being used in quantifying verbs and the amount of time which they take precedence. This table provides the complete list of Chinese measure words used in modern Chinese. Click the Pinyin to hear the pronunciation of the measure word.
