On 7/16/17 at 7:30 am, the High Altitude Balloon team (part of the Science Club) at the Amherst Regional Middle School in Amherst, MA launched their high altitude balloon (ARMS HAB). A high altitude balloon is a balloon and payload designed to take photos and record data from the upper atmosphere. The ARMS HAB was predicted to travel to 36500 meters (119750.66 feet). The balloon's highest recorded altitude was approximately 90,000 feet, recorded by the onboard data logger before the sensor most likely froze. The balloon was launched from the UMASS Amherst athletic field. Hours later, the payload was recovered in Grassy Pond in the Grassy Pond Conservation Area in Acton MA.
