I'm SSgt Patric Moore. I am an active duty enlisted Air Force recruiter in Waterville, ME. I've been in the Air Force for 8 years and have been stationed in Monterey, CA (Presidio of Monterey), San Angelo, TX (Goodfellow AFB), Augusta, GA (Ft. Gordon), and now Central Maine (Waterville). Along with me is my dog, Barkley, a Newfoundland/Great Pyrenees mix. I'm originally from Pennsylvania and decided to join the Air Force right after I graduated high school. I wanted to follow in my families footsteps and serve as well as have a steady income, pay for college, learn a valuable skill and go off to become independent.
I met with my local Air Force recruiter and joined as a Cryptologic Language Analyst with a focus on the Pashto language. I spent almost two years learning Pashto at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA. After that I headed to Ft. Gordon in Augusta, GA to put my skills to the test and translate during real time missions that were happening in Afghanistan. During that time I also learned other skills and worked in Mission Management within the Intelligence Community. After seven years in the Intelligence field I wanted to try another opportunity in the Air Force and put in for recruiting as well as Maine. Now I'm here to help YOU get started. Text me directly to setup an appointment. I'm happy to answer any questions you have to help you get started!
COVID-19 UPDATE: With all the changes recently due to the corona virus, going forward we will have some slight changes to the enlistment process. Until further notice, our Air Force Recruiting Office will remain open and continue to hold appointments and ship out applicants to Basic Training. However, we will be holding all appoitment virtually or over the phone to ensure we minimize unnecessary contact for the safety of our applicants and our recruiters. At this moment, we are still sending applicants to MEPS therefore we will still be holding appointments, completing all necessary paperwork and sending processors. Thank you and stay safe!
If you have a simple process it should take 3-4 months before you ship out to basic training in San Antonio, TX. Each recruiter may run their process a litte bit differently depending on the area they are assigned to. Here's how I run it out of the Waterville, ME office.
Step 1: Get Pre-Qualified. I'll pre-screen you over the phone to check for any red flags that are disqualifying to enter, such as serious medical issues, law violations, drug use, etc. I'll send you a practice test you can take at home to give you an idea of how you'll score on the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). If your pre-screen and practice test scores are good to go, we'll schedule an initial appointment.
Step 2: We'll hold an initial appointment either at my office or over the phone. I will build your a profile in our system and we will review all necessary paperwork. I will provide you with a background check packet that must be completed by your next appointment. We will go over benefits, answer any questions, ensure you're ready to join, and are open to current Air Force needs. Air Force needs currently include all mechanical aptitude jobs, electronics aptitude jobs, security forces, and special warfare positions. While we have 150+ career fields availave and book a wide varierty regularly, we cannot guarantee or create positions based on applicants wants.
Step 3: Once your background check and profile are completed, I will submit a scheduling request to MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) for your ASVAB and physical. We'll complete your MEPS brief over the phone or Facetime to enusre you are prepared to go to MEPS. The physical is not a PT test. The physical will be checking qualifying factors such as vision, hearing, blood tests, drug tests, etc.
Step 4: MEPS will be taking precautions and will be screening everyone for covid-19 traits or exposure upon arrival. Once scheduled for MEPS, you will go down and complete your testing on the first day. You'll spend the night at a nearby hotel, free of charge, and do your physical the next day. Once the testing and physical is complete you will know what jobs you are qualified to do based on academic and physical results. You will complete the oath of enlistment and swear into the Air Force as a new member of the Delayed Entry Program (DEP).
Step 6: The Delayed Entry Program (DEP) is everyone who is qualified and waiting to book a job or has already booked a joob and is waiting for their ship date. We will complete your DEP briefing and create a list of jobs that you would like to request over the phone. You will never be forced into anything that you are not qualified for or requesting.
Step 7: Once a month, our operations center will receive 80+ contracts. At this point, they will review every DEP member in Maine that does not have a job and will align contracts based on applicatns request and Air Force needs. Once you book a job, you'll receive a date to leave for basic training, typically being within the next 1-3 months.
