What Is 4-H?

4-H is an informal, practical, learn-by-doing educational program for rural and urban young people ages 5 to 18 from all racial, cultural, economic, and social backgrounds.

4-H is an educational program for young people supported by Mississippi State University Extension. It is a family-community effort supplementing and complementing Mississippi State Extension’s mission. 4-H is—

an informal educational program,
community-based and locally determined,
primarily group-focused and family-oriented,
volunteer-operated, and
coordinated by professional Extension faculty.

THE 4-H'S

Head, Heart, Hands, and Health are the four H's in 4-H, and they are the four values members work on through fun and engaging programs.

Head - Managing, Thinking

Heart - Relating, Caring

Hands - Giving, Working

Health - Being, Living

4-H MISSION

4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults.
