Disarmament would be possible only when the defense budget of both the countries would become zero i.e x and y approaches to zero when t increases.

According to the equation, no such values of a and b is possible for which this can happen.

Hence complete disarmament is impossible.

Stabilized arms race will be possible only when defense budgets of both the countries i.e. x and y approached to some positive finite value.

This is possible for some specific ranges of trust i.e. specific values of a and b. Those intervals are

a belongs to (-12,18 )

b belongs to (-12,3 )

A runaway arms race means both of the countries keeps on increasing their defense budgets which can result in harmful outcomes

This is possible for large ranges of a and b.

In this case when time will tend to infinity, their are chances of something disastrous or even a war.
