We are hoping to start compiling stories, updates, pictures, and results of all our alumni, and especially those that are continuing on in the sports of Cross Country/Track and Field!
Our first Alumni update, Ryan Humelsine, runs for RPI.
Ryan Humelsine (RBR '17) joined the Renselear Polytechnic Institute Engineers in the Fall of 2017 after one of the most successful careers of any male distance runner in the past ten years. Ryan came in to RBR running around a 5:17 mile as an 8th grader, and quickly joined our sub-5:00 club in track after a Varsity season in Cross Country. A model of consistency and improvement, Ryan went on to have High School PR's of 2:02 in the 800, 4:25 in the 1600m, and 9:25.01 in the 3200m, as well as 15:56 at Ocean County Park, and 16:56 at Holmdel Park. Ryan led the Bucs for three years as our top Cross Country runner, and was dominant in our division and county. A natural born leader, and a gifted student, Ryan was the Salutatorian of his class, and is busy making Renselear (or as they like to say, RUNselear) a DIII force to be reckoned with!
Lauren Sapone, High Tech/RBR Class of 2016, competing for Dartmouth College.
Lauren Sapone attended High Tech and competed for the Buccaneers, graduating in Spring of 2016. Lauren catapulted herself into the ranks of New Jerseys' best young stars right off the bat, placing 2nd in Central Jersey Group II XC behind teammate Kyrsten Gilmartin (RBR '14). Lauren was among the fiercest competitors, qualifying for New Balance Outdoor Nationals, Penn Relays, and NJ MOC multiple times. Highly sought after by many top-tier programs, Lauren decided to attend Dartmouth College as part of the Big Green's Cross Country and Track and Field teams. Lauren graduated with high school bests of 2:11.86 in the 800m (RBR's 2nd best time ever!), 4:52 for the full mile, 10:46 in the 3200m, and XC bests of 17:38 at Ocean County Park, and 18:44 at Holmdel Park. Lauren currently runs cross country, and started her Steeple Chase career this spring.
