Week 1

May 4th-May 8th

Must Do:

This week you must complete THREE journal entries. These can be typed or handwritten and should be completed on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This week’s theme is the New Normal. Your journal entries should address the following topics.

Entry #1

Our everyday lives have changed tremendously since school closed in March. We are all living a “new normal.” For this entry, list 20 details from daily life that have changed during this time of social distancing. Consider both big and small changes.

Entry #2

Describe your typical day? What is your new daily schedule or routine? List times and activities from the time you wake until you go to sleep. What activities is your family doing to stay connected to each other and to extended family and friends?

Entry #3

What changes have you found most difficult during this time of social distancing? Which changes have you found surprisingly pleasant? What changes would you continue with after social distancing has ended and why?

Daily Challenges for Your Social & Emotional Health!

Not Required but Highly Recommended : )

Monday

Act of Kindness: Compliment someone's smile or something you love about them!

Positive Affirmation: Today I will smile more! A smile is all it take to change someone's day and it's enough to change mine too.

Brain Break: Do some "Pretzel" Breathing!: Stand up, cross your ankles. Now cross your right wrist over left, turn your hands so your thumbs are facing the floor, put palms together and interlace your fingers. Bend your elbows out and gently turn your hands down and toward your body until they rest on the center of your chest. Put your tongue on the roof of your mouth. Relax and breathe!

Tuesday

Act of Kindness: Offer to join a social-distance-appropriate neighborhood cleanup effort or, even better, start your own!

Positive Affirmation: Today I know that my life makes a difference. I will be an active member of my community and make an impact on others!

Brain Break: 5-4-3-2-1: Stand up and do five jumping jacks, spin around four times, hop on one foot three times, walk all the way around the room two times, and touch your toes!

Wednesday

Act of Kindness: Be brave! Invite someone you don't usually hang out with to make plans to video chat about school or just to talk!

Positive Affirmation: Today is about acceptance. Accepting others, accepting things and situations I cannot change, and accepting myself.

Brain Break: Mindful Awareness: Think about a pet or a person you love. What do you appreciate about them? While thinking about them, slowly breath in through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Repeat that 10 times.

Thursday

Act of Kindness: Spend some time organizing your closet. Donate clothing, blankets, coats, toys, scarves, and anything in between that you don't use anymore to a local homeless shelter, charity, or religious organization.

Positive Affirmation: Today I will choose to show love and kindness to all those I interact with.

Brain Break: Dance Party!: Put on your favorite music and dance for a song or two!

Friday

Act of Kindness: Gather all of your classmates, friends, and family's birthdays and create a Birthday Wall!

Positive Affirmation: Today I am grateful for my friends and family and let them know that I am thinking of them. They hold a special place in my heart!

Brain Break: The Other Hand: Practice writing your name a few times with your non-dominant hand to help activate both sides of the brain.
