In DepEd Order No. 49, s. 2011 entitled Mandated Programs, Projects and Activities of the Supreme Student Government, The Supreme Student Government (SSG) is the foremost co-curricular student organization authorized to operate and implement pertinent programs, projects and activities in schools nationwide. It lays the groundwork for good governance, volunteerism, unity and cooperation by providing the students various venues where they can improve their leadership, knowledge, skills and attitudes. It trains students to become better members of society in accordance with the ideals and principles of participatory democracy and good citizenship. More importantly, it helps the Department of Education (DepEd) achieve its thrusts as indicated in the Education for All (EFA) Goals, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Basic Education Social Reform Agenda (BESRA).
The SPG/SSG shall have the power which emanates from the student body. It shall be an autonomous, unified, and the highest democratic representative of the student body.
It shall encourage an open communication and dialogue with other student organizations, movements, and other sectors of society not inconsistent with its principles and purposes.
The SPG and SSG will also act as Coordinating Council of all co-curricular organizations in the school. Thus, all clubs and organizations are required to have their own constitution and by-laws, mission, vision and core values to make it official. The SPG/SSG shall recommend to the School Head the granting, renewal or revocation of accreditation of campus student organizations.
The Youth Formation Division (YFD) being the lead office in the Division level and headed by the Youth Formation Coordinator shall conduct activities to support the newly elected SPG and SSG Officers. It ensures YFP policies, programs, projects and activities are implemented. The Youth Formation Coordinator manages the youth formation programs of the schools within the Division, including but not limited to the implementation of the Supreme Pupils Government (SPG) and Supreme Students Governments (SSG) as well as other co-curricular and extra-curricular clubs and programs.
